The toughest competitive examination in India is UPSC(Union Public Service Commission). It is known to everyone in the country. Due to the vast syllabus, it becomes tough. Every aspirant needs guidance. Either the guidance from an institute or a teacher or from parents or from a friend. Guidance is the most important factor for any examination.

UPSC:

The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a nationwide competitive examination in India conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to various Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service. Also simply referred to as the UPSC examination.

How to start Preparation for UPSC: 

First, you should aware that UPSC Exam has 3 stages:
  1. Preliminary - Objective Mode.
  2. Mains - Written.
  3. Interview - Personal test.
Eligibility is an important factor in this UPSC Examination. On the official website, they provide the details about the eligibility criteria but it is tough to understand. Here, we are providing you the complete details about the Eligibility criteria. 

In the document which is released by the Board of UPSC, it is clearly stated about some factors i.e, Nationality, Educational Qualifications, Age Limit, Number of attempts.

Eligibility - Nationality:

For All - India services like IAS, IPS, IFS - The candidate must be a citizen of India.

For the Civil Services, 

(a) a citizen of India, or   (b) a subject of Nepal, or (c) a subject of Bhutan, or

(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Eligibility - Educational Qualification:

There is no particular stream for applying Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Exam
but every candidate must be a graduate. A graduation certificate from a recognized institution or university is mandatory to apply for UPSC.
  • Candidates who are in their Last/Final Semester or year in the college or university can appear for UPSC Preliminary exam but they have to submit their Final Marksheet at the time of DAF(Detailed Application Form) in the Civils Mains Exam.

Eligibility - Age Limit:

Candidates must be within the age limit described in the document on IAS Official website.
  • The candidate must attain the age of 21 years and must not exceed the age of 32 years. The date of birth as mentioned in the High School/Higher Secondary certificate will be considered by the UPSC.
  • For the UPSC IAS 2021 exam, the age will be counted from the date July 1 of the notification year. It means that for the IAS exam 2021, the age will be taken into account from the date July 1, 2021. For IAS exam 2021, the candidate must not be born before August 2, 1989, and not later than August 1, 2000.

Eligibility - Number of Attempts:

  • General/EWS (Economically Weaker Section) - 6 Attempts.
  • OBC - 9 Attempt 
  •  SC/ST - No limits (Till Age limit)
  • Disability - No limits (Till Age limit)

Aspirants facing problem by Home Preparation:

How to Prepare For UPSC Exam from Home:

  1. Go through the Previous year's Question Papers.
  2. Prepare study plan.
  3. Make your Foundation Strong.
  4. Read Newspaper Daily.
  5. Motivate Yourself.
  • Previous year papers will help to know the pattern and a basic idea of what type of questions will come and how much time you need to spend on each question. 
  • Without a study plan, it will be difficult to prepare. You may miss important topics without a plan. Prepare goals and try to achieve them.
  • Build Concept learning and try to learn the basics of each subject.
  • Make a habit of reading newspapers daily. It will help you to gain knowledge on current affairs and it is very useful for Group discussion and an interview.
  • Motivate yourself in every situation. It can be a factor for your future development.
